Modeled after the Periodic Table of Elements, Avenues: The World School created a customized Table of World Elements that exchanges chemical elements for educational outcomes. Elements such as Empathy, Civilizations and Atoms can be combined like compounds to create interdisciplinary project-based learning targets. 

 

Another student and I co-created physical models of this table to gift to the Head of School and the Heads of the Mastery Program. Project work included: a cardboard and plywood rapid prototype; CADed designs in Fusion360 (table and frame) and Adobe Illustrator (element tiles); laser cut frame and element tiles in colored acrylic; and assembly, polishing and shining.

 

The final product allows each element tile to be removed. Both the frame and the elements are made out of colored acrylic, held in place with double sided mounting tape.
